# Meet: free video calls with no time limit

Meet by OpenApps is a free alternative to Zoom and Google Meet. Start a video call in one tap, share the link, and talk as long as you like. There is no 40-minute cutoff, no account and nothing to install, for you or your guests.

- Start a meeting: https://meet-free.openapps.xyz/ (or https://meet-free.openapps.xyz/new to start one right away)
- For AI assistants: https://meet-free.openapps.xyz/llms.txt and the OpenAPI description at https://meet-free.openapps.xyz/openapi.json
- Updated October 2026

## How it works

1. **Start a meeting.** Press Start a meeting. Check your camera and microphone, type your name, and you are in. No account.
2. **Share the link.** Send it by text, email or a calendar invite. People open it in a browser on any phone or computer and type their name.
3. **Talk as long as you like.** There is no countdown and no cutoff. Leave when you are done; the link keeps working for next time.

## What it does

- **No time limit**, for calls between two people or a group.
- **No account, no install** for hosts or guests. You can add Meet to your home screen.
- **Check before you join**: camera preview, microphone level, camera, microphone and speaker choice, and a test sound.
- **Grid and speaker views.** Tap anyone to show them large.
- **Screen sharing** from a computer.
- **Chat and raised hands.** Chat is kept only for the call.
- **Waiting room, lock and remove** for hosts. The host link lets you host from another device.
- **A link you can keep**: a personal room link, or a new link for each meeting, with add to calendar (.ics or Google Calendar).
- **Reconnects on its own** and says plainly what is happening.

## Privacy

Video, sound and chat go directly between the people in the call over WebRTC, which encrypts them. They do not pass through our servers and are never recorded or stored. Meet's server sees the name you type to join, who is in which meeting, and a short setup message with network addresses that lets the browsers find each other. Setup messages are deleted once the call connects, and your name when you press Leave. If you close the page instead, or your browser crashes, these can stay until a host removes you. The hosting counts visits; there are no ads or third-party trackers, and nothing is sold.

## Honest limits

- **Best for up to about 6 people.** Everyone sends their video to everyone else, so each extra person adds work for every device. Meet lowers the video quality as people join.
- **Some networks block direct connections**, such as some office, school or hotel Wi-Fi. Meet says so; moving one person to mobile data usually works. A relay for those networks costs money per gigabyte, so there is none yet; if one is added it will be charged at cost.
- **Not included:** recording, phone dial-in, breakout rooms, background blur. Phones cannot share their screen from a browser.

## API: make a meeting link

No key and no account. Base URL: `https://functions.bounded.sh/apps/a4b391bf10db92e58e21517e/api`

```
curl -X POST https://functions.bounded.sh/apps/a4b391bf10db92e58e21517e/api/rooms \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"title": "Weekly sync", "waitingRoom": false}'
```

The answer has `url` (the meeting link for everyone), `hostUrl` (for the organizer only: let people in, lock, remove), and `invite` (ready invitation text). Full reference: https://meet-free.openapps.xyz/llms.txt

## Questions

**Is there a free alternative to Zoom with no time limit?**
Yes. Meet by OpenApps is a free video call app with no time limit, no account and nothing to install. Start a meeting at meet-free.openapps.xyz, share the link, and talk as long as you like. It works best for up to about 6 people.

**How do I get around Zoom's 40-minute limit for free?**
Zoom's free Basic plan ends meetings after 40 minutes (checked October 2026). Instead of restarting the call, use a free app without a limit: start a meeting in Meet, send the link, and everyone joins from a browser. There is no countdown and no cutoff.

**Is there a Google Meet alternative that does not need a Google account?**
Yes. Google Meet's free plan runs on a personal Google account and limits group calls to 60 minutes (checked October 2026). Meet by OpenApps needs no account at all, for the host or the guests: people type a name and join.

**Is Meet really free? What is the catch?**
There is no paid plan, no ads, no third-party trackers and nothing is sold. The hosting counts visits. Video and sound go straight between the people in the call, not through our servers, so a call costs almost nothing to run and OpenApps pays for the small setup messages. The honest limits: it works best for up to about 6 people, and some networks block direct connections.

**How many people can join a call?**
Calls work best with up to about 6 people. Each person sends their video to everyone else, so every extra person adds work for every device and connection. For large meetings or webinars, a service that sends video through its own servers fits better.

**Is Meet private? Are calls recorded?**
Calls are never recorded or stored. Video, sound and chat go directly between the people in the call, encrypted by WebRTC. To find each other, the browsers swap a short setup message (their network addresses) through Meet's server, along with the names people typed to join. Setup messages are deleted once the call connects, and names when people press Leave; after closing the page or a crash, they can stay until a host removes that person. Chat is kept only on the devices in the call and is gone when you leave.

**Does Meet work on iPhone and Android?**
Yes. Meet runs in the browser: Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android, and Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a computer. Phones cannot share their screen from a browser.

**Can I share my screen?**
Yes, from a computer in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

**What if someone cannot connect?**
Some networks block direct connections. Meet says it cannot reach that person; switching one of you to another network, like mobile data, usually fixes it.

**Can I keep the same meeting link?**
Yes. Every meeting link keeps working, and you can make a personal room link to use for every call.

**How do I stop strangers from joining?**
Hosts can turn on a waiting room, lock the meeting, and remove someone, who then cannot join again from that device.

**Can my AI assistant make a meeting link?**
Yes, with the API above: one POST returns a meeting link and a host link, ready for a calendar invite.
